Bipolar versus epilepsy. Are they related?

Yes they’re related. And they even overlap. Although one doesn’t necessarily cause the other.

A psychiatrist might tell you that you are bipolar. A neurologist might diagnose you with psychogenic nonepileptic seizure (PNES).

So which is it?

Price are higher than any other wealthy nation.

Here are some stunning examples: Johnson & Johnson’s arthritis drug Ustekinumab (Stelara) costs $79,000 in the U.S.

But it costs $20,000 in Canada and $12,000 in France.


Treating depression is no laughing matter. Or is it?

When you think of treating depression, your mind often goes to antidepressant pills, pills, and more pills. Sometimes all for naught.

According to research published in the World Journal of Psychiatry, up to 15% of people diagnosed with depression don’t respond to traditional medication.

And around 35% say that antidepressants only offer partial relief from widely available treatments, highlighting the need for medication that works in different ways.

Now, groundbreaking research points to a new possibility.

It blew my mind. I think it will astound you, too.

What does the new abortion ban mean to those who take epilepsy drugs?

A lot more than you may think.

It could result in catastrophic life-threatening illness for women of childbearing age.

Simply put, the abortion ban may mean denial of effective drugs for women with MS, Migraines and Epilepsy.

Many women with epilepsy have asked their doctors about the connection between seizures and hormones. But not every woman has seen her concerns given the attention she’d hoped for.

Although it is not very well understood at this point, there are scientifically documented connections between seizures and hormones that not all physicians are educated about.

One of the most wonderful things my mother did for me was to buy me a notebook.

In fifth grade, I got sent home with a note to my parents, accusing me of plagiarism.

My parents called me into their room that evening (which was always a bad sign when you were signaled out from your sibs), and they asked me about the poem and where I found it.

Do you know your blood type?

There’s a good chance that you don’t.

More Americans know their horoscope sign (66 percent) than their blood type (51 percent), according to a  recent survey published by the medical laboratory company Quest Diagnostics.
