For many years I thought Patient Assistant Programs were only available to those not covered by insurance or only to children or to those in the hospital.
But, I was wrong.
Nothing lasts forever. And it seems my knee is one of those things.
So, I’m scheduled for total knee replacement surgery on Wednesday, August 2nd.
For me, it’s living.
There was a time when I truly wanted to die.
Life was so out of control and I was so desperate, I saw death as the only way out.
Death was my siren song…whispering to me every day.
When I was a teen I fell down, walked into walls, bumped into virtually everything in my path, and almost drowned in the shower.
So, you can imagine what a disaster dating was.
And it can trigger some pretty awful consequences.
Like the time I was gardening at high noon. (What was I thinking about?) I fell backwards, hitting my head on the walkway. And I couldn’t ask for help because I was out cold. Baking in the sun.
And I’m sure you have your own stories. About passing out, puking or just feeling like you’re as dizzy as if you were on a roller coaster ride.
An epileptologist explained that heat can trigger a seizure for some people because it’s firing up the neurons in the brain which can cause a seizure.
Some examples:
A study by Johns Hopkins researchers shows that a fifth of U.S. neurologists appear unaware of serious drug safety risks associated with various anti-epilepsy drugs, potentially jeopardizing the health of patients who could be just as effectively treated with safer alternative medications.
How many of you have had a car accident…an abrupt fall…a physical assault? If you are one of those people and you have suffered a head injury, the probability of seizure activity increases dramatically…
Seizures may develop immediately after an injury to the brain or may develop in delayed fashion, showing up months or years after the initial trauma.
Imagine an inflammation so powerful that it can play havoc with your brainstem, cerebrum, cerebellum, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.
That’s the neurological damage that can happen as a result of encephalitis.
The good news is that it’s rare.
The bad news is that it causes the brain tissue to swell (cerebral edema), which may destroy nerve cells, cause bleeding in the brain (intracerebral hemorrhage), and brain damage.
Foods that fight stress…

I worked as a writer in the health and wellness field for more than ten years.
So I know a thing or two about this stuff. (And stress!)
But I also know from personal experience that epilepsy is a very unique condition.
Between all the different types of seizures, and triggers, and meds…there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
The same goes for de-stressing your diet.
What works for one might not work for another.
