Salba — The Super Food | March 21, 2018

You probably already know a lot about all the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids.  About how they are crucial to the proper development and function of cell membranes in the brain.

And how, according to researchers at Emory University, one particular fatty acid – DHA — is found to be at critically low levels in patients with uncontrolled epilepsy. Which is why doctors recommend diets rich in Omega-3.

    Especially grapefruit.

    • Link for this? I never heard this before, and no neurologist ever told us. Son drinks a lot of o.j., but hasn’t had a seizure in almost 2 years.

  3. Salba is certainly popular these days Phyllis, indeed I have seen it recommended as a cure for cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure not to mention as an aid for weight loss! I have read that it interferes with anti hypertensive drugs among other negative aspects. I have also read that it is an heirloom variety of chia seds which of course is also a good source of omega 3’s.

    I currently take bomb size fish oil capsules daily and eat salmon and quinoa twice a week. Since i don’t have high blood pressure i will cautiously try salba with quinoa. I guess that could be called the Inca diet!

      Wow! You’ve got a terrific diet going there.

      Make sure your fish oil is current (it can stagnant) and keep on eating that salmon. (I have it three times a week!)

      And thanks for the tip about quinoa.

      All I can say about Salba is that is works for me.

  8. I have recently been using isagenix for weight loss. I’m only drinking the shakes, and having a normal dinner.
    I have had a migraine for the past 3 mornings. This has now subsided, but today I feel quite unsteady.
    My weight loss counselor says this is normal. Am I safe?
    Anyone else doing this?

  11. Never heard of SALBA before. I do not risk eating any salmon sold as FARM RAISED, For reasons of corporate raised animal foods with steroids & hormones, if it isn’t WILD salmon I do not buy it. COSTCO sells their KIRKLAND brand WILD salmon near $30.00 as it’s already cut up & ready for cooking in coconut oil . As one meat cutter said to me there is not much difference in the 2, as both are around 3 pounds when you buy 1 or the other. Never buy those corporate farm raised of anything unless you know that local farmer near you or wherever that you know what gets put into feed & alike.

  13. This is interesting, Phyllis! I have never heard of Salba. SO I looked it up. The packaging makes it look like it would be sold at a Health Food Store. I was hoping at the Spice-Seasoning rack at the grocery store.
    Where do I find this besides the internet? Thanks.

If everyone notices HOW YOU LIKE the foods WITHOUT MSG & etc,,, in them and you all but crave them. << THAT is to be a sign where your body needs it, ''so I have been told''' and those foods you do NOT like at all, are foods that may make your body become weaken in any way. I know this clearly with the food of a TOMATO alone is BAD for me,, but when I eat TOMATO FRIED with SUGAR, I am able to eat them and have no problem in doing so. NOTE TOMATO has ''glutamate in them'' and when SUGAR get added onto a TOMATO and that gets eaten, then THAT SUGAR does in some way reduces ALL glutamate actions that the brain can have from eating a tomato raw otherwise that has NO SUGAR, and may prevent any seizure activity from eating a RAW TOMATO. Fried tomatoes for me YES,, Raw tomato NO, as even ketchup is NO because MSG is added in every brand you buy anywhere, when a raw tomato has NO MSG except for its own glutamate it naturally makes when it is growing. GREEN, YELLOW & ORANGE tomatoes have less MSG than what all RED ones have. Still IF I eat tomato it WILL HAVE SUGAR. Homemade vegetable soup WILL HAVE sugar added to it. So test YOUR BRAIN when you like a tomato, or anything with TOMATO.
