Only Days Left to Make Epilepsy Awareness a Reality — Take Action! | December 12, 2012

Please call, email, Facebook, tweet and/or visit Speaker Boehner and Representative Upton. We need to ensure that RAISE is passed by the end of the year.

With 107 cosponsors, House Resolution 298 (the RAISE Resolution) has come a long way, but this important legislation is only a few days away from “dying in committee”.

The bill needs to be released from committee before it can be voted on and passed. The Epilepsy Foundation needs every advocate to do everything they can to reach out to Speaker John Boehner (OH) and Representative Fred Upton (MI).

We need to get RAISE passed by the end of the year and time is running out. As the 112th Congress comes to a close, we must make our voices heard so that Congress understands how crucial epilepsy awareness is to the epilepsy community across the country.

Congress only has a few more days left to take a big step towards national epilepsy awareness.

Please contact either Speaker Boehner or Representative Upton this week and ask them to release House Resolution 298 from committee so that it can be voted on and passed.

To call Speaker Boehner or Representative Upton, dial the number for the U.S. Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121, ask to be connected with the office of John Boehner or Fred Upton.

Once connected to the office, let the person on the phone know that you are calling about House Resolution 298.

Tell them that you are calling on (Representative Boehner or Upton) to ensure the release of the RAISE Resolution from committee so that it can be brought to the floor for a vote.

Share a personal story (if you have one) about your connection to epilepsy and why epilepsy awareness means so much to you.

Congress needs to take epilepsy awareness seriously and they need to know that passing House Resolution 298, will greatly improve the lives of the millions of people in this country living with epilepsy.

TALKING POINTS:

– The resolution asks for no additional money, only a greater effort by the federal government to coordinate the use of epilepsy awareness and educational programs that have already been created.

– H. Res 298 has the bipartisan support of 107 cosponsors.

– There are nearly 3 million people in the U.S. live with epilepsy.

– 1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy during some part of their life.

– 1 in 10 people have had a seizure.
