Celebrate November Epilepsy Awareness Month! | October 19, 2011

Go to Dr. Oz’s website where it says “Ask Dr. Oz a question” and make YOUR case for EPILEPSY!

Dr. Oz is well-known and respected world-wide.  He also has an open ear.  What we need to do is all participate repeatedly in his “Ask Dr. Oz”  http://www.doctoroz.com/ask

* You can write about “taking epilepsy out of the dark ages”…

* The misinformation and misunderstanding of epilepsy…

* How epilepsy affects over 3 million Americans of all ages – more than Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, and Parkinson’s Disease combined.

* In America, Epilepsy is as common as Breast Cancer, and takes as many lives.

* Almost 500 new cases of Epilepsy are diagnosed every day in the United States.

* Yet, epilepsy gets very little funding. If you take Autism, Parkinson’s, MS, Alzheimer’s per patient: They get $200-$400 per person in research. Epilepsy research gets about $35 per patient.

* Epilepsy affects 50,000,000 people worldwide.

* Each year over 125,000 to 150,000 are newly diagnosed with Epilepsy.

* One in 10 people will suffer a seizure in their lifetime.

* Each year over 125,000 to 150,000 are newly diagnosed with Epilepsy.

* The mortality rate among people with Epilepsy is two to three times higher than the general population.

* For many soldiers suffering traumatic brain injury on the battlefield, Epilepsy will be a long-term consequence.

* November is Epilepsy Awareness Month.

Write whatever your spirit moves you to say.  Just PLEASE…write to Dr. Oz…and write often!

WE NEED TO BE HEARD!!!

  1. Phylis, you say that Alzheimer’s gets more funding than epilepsy. That is true, but there still is no cure for Alzheimer’s. The meds just slow it down.

Alzheimer’s is more in the closet than epilepsy. I tell people that I have it and they think that I cannot go anywhere by yourself. I automatically have 2 caregivers, my husband and my neuro.

I am looking forward to next month. I love Epilepsy Awareness Month. It is important.

    • Ruth, Alzheimers may be in the closet, but not more than Epilepsy.
You can mention alzheimers to most any one and they know exactly what it is and what it does.
      Not so with Epilepsy.

  2. There may not be any cure for Alzheimer’s, but there’s no cure for epilepsy, either!

  3. Hi everyone! I am new on here and am just wondering if any of you could help! First of all I am writing a series of speechs for my college speech class and I have chosen a subject very close to my heart, Epilepsy. The reason this means so much to me is because I have seen my brother affected by this his whole life and lately they can not get his seizures under control. I was wondering if any of you have any info that you would like to pass on to me, besides what I can find on the basic epilepsy foundation website. I also have to have some kind of handout with info or prop when I actually present these speeches. If you can think of anything I am open to any information or advice.
    Thank you,
    Mary Anderson
