If you’re suffering from a life-threatening condition, emergency room triage is no joke.
They didn’t stop to ask me the name of my doctor when I was in a coma. (Drug interaction.)
Or when my elbow was sticking through my skin. (Bad fall.)
But once I was mobile and ready to function on my own cognizance, out I went.
Ouch. Was I ready? Not really.
But it was time to go home to my own surroundings, my doctors and my old regimen.
And I didn’t even have to worry about C.diff. (a germ bacterium that causes diarrhea and an inflammation of the colon).
It’s disgusting and difficult to cure. Take my word for it.
But this isn’t an article about C.diff.
It’s an article about payment and politics.
Some of it is a matter of money. (You stay home, they pay less.)
But t’s much more than just that.
Think about safety, patient comfort, quality of care, consequences.
And you’re almost there.
