One of the most wonderful things my mother did for me was to buy me a notebook.
In fifth grade, I got sent home with a note to my parents, accusing me of plagiarism.
My parents called me into their room that evening (which was always a bad sign when you were signaled out from your sibs), and they asked me about the poem and where I found it.
I told them I found it in my heart and recited it.
They were dumbstruck.
I went on to be accused of plagiarism, but not before my mother went out and bought me this wonderful notebook.
It said “Scribbles” and had a pen attached.
From then on, I was off.
And the rest is history.

Since my mom died before I graduated from high school, I can’t say I know how you feel. I just hope you had a lot of good times with your mother and have a positive feeling for her.

To be honest, the good times were wonderful. The bad times were a horror show.
My mother was an alcoholic.

Most of us have realities that are difficult/impossible to reconcile….and those realities alter & even shape us. For lack of a better idea, I will pray for your inner peace.
It’s easy to dislike ‘real life’ as a grownup 🤗🙏

So beautifully said and true. Real life was not what I was expecting as a child (epilepsy).
Being a grownup brought new beginnings, new friends and new love.
That’s what I was so desperately striving for.
But my mother paved the way for me to be a writer. A gift I can never repay.

I am very sorry for the loss of your Mom. It is not so great to learn that one’s parents are regular people who are not perfect. God chose you to be with her and seeng the inspiration she gave you to write may be the reason. Alcoholism is brutal.Thank you for your stories. Sharing and knowing that others understand the struggles of epilepsy is very helpful. 🙂
