The Cat’s Prayer | July 23, 2019
Just recently, we lost our 2 year old cat to a fatal feline disease.
I wrote this down to try to express exactly what I feel…
Treat me kindly, dear master. Accord me the courtesy due to a cat — and I for my part will love you, amuse you and cheer your heart as only a cat can do.
Give me a sunny spot to sleep in when morning dawns and I will warm your lap on cold evenings.
Respect my independence and my need to walk alone at times and I will look after myself, so that you may come and go as you please.
Speak to me in our secret kitty language, let me hear my name sung in the music of your voice, and I will meow happily in sweet harmony with you.
Stroke my fur gently and lovingly and I will soothe you with the soft purrs that can only come from a happy cat.
Indulge my curiosity and I will show you the joys of bird watching, star gazing and other kitty pleasures.
Play with me and see me rejoice! Toss a humble ball of yarn and I will delight you with my cleverness and acrobatic leaps.
But do not laugh at me or allow me to be teased for there is nothing I prize more than my dignity.
Keep my surroundings neat and clean and I will be fastidious in my habits.
Feed me and be fair and I will teach you how to tell “kitty time” by instinct and tummy tunes.
And when I am old and the time comes to say farewell, hold me gently in your arms and I will go without a whimper.
For with you I am trusting, safe and secure. A cat who walked alone but loved you with a full and happy heart.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Last year my 18 yo tabby died; we’d been through so much together, I still grieve, despite adopting another “survivor.” Thank you for sharing. Nothing like feline therapy to help the brain!

I’m very sorry for your loss. She sounds like a well loved kitty. It’s very hard saying farewell to our Furbabies. Maybe you have gained another guardian angel, of the feline persuasion.

I am so sorry for your loss 😦 She will be there to greet you over that rainbow bridge when it’s time for the two of you to meet once again. ❤
Our 4 legged friends leave us way too soon. The pain will never go away, but it will lessen and you will remember her with a smile like the way she would want you to remember her.

My condolences, Phyllis.
I know my beloved Seizure Alert Dog who is over 15 may one day leave me and it makes me cry to even think about that eventuality. He has been with me through two kinds of cancer and more than a decade of epilepsy.
Pets are members of the family. I genuinely pity anyone who doesn’t understand that basic fact.

Sorry to hear. The quality of the brief time you shared together are reflected in your remarks. I lost my pomeranian of 17+ years in June to dementia. They are truly a blessing to us, and do make life so much more fulfilling. Take care and know we feel your loss.

Leena Lee died of a fatal and rare condition. There was never any way to detect it, until she was dying.
So there was nothing we could do or could have done.
I feel so helpless.

Thank you all for your condolences. I have the love and memories which are a sweet but bittersweet of all we shared.
And, if I’m lucky, in time, Leena Lee will look over me when I choose another Havana Brown baby girl.
Again, thanks for all your caring and compassion. That’s why YOU are my family and the reason I get up in the morning.

Actually, we have been told of a newborn kitten with the same mother as Leena Lee.
It would be about three months until the baby was ready to leave it’s mom, but my fingers are crossed.
By that time, we should be ready.

Phylis, I’m sorry about your sweet family member. We have 2 ill kitties now. One has IBD and one kidney disease. We are doing all we can to keep them comfortable and well cared for. One is 4 and one is 10. In 2016 we lost 2 with in months of each other. Yet we still love them and adore our pets. Tucker the one with kidney disease is the most lovable kitty whose ever had my heart.

Oh Melissa. We had a kitty with IBD and kidney disease. We tried our best to comfort and save her, but ultimately lost the battle. And losing 2 cats in two months, must have been devastating. Sometimes, life can be cruel. But having the memories and love for them must be a blessing. Along with remembering the happy moments.

There’s something especially heartbreaking about the passing of a pet. I’ve already begun steeling myself for when the time comes for our dearest cat, Pikachu.

So sorry for your loss, pets are such a big part of our support system, they bring us joy every day. The relationship we have with our pets allows us to share our love, and feelings on good days and bad. They are truly our best friends in life.
