MSG: Dangerous or Deadly? | March 30, 2018

MSG can be responsible for long term neurological damage.

It’s been linked to diabetes, stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, stomach disorders, fatigue, depression, headaches and migraines, grand mal seizures, irregular or rapid heartbeat, nausea and vomiting, numbness in the fingertips, autism, ADHD,  asthma-like symptoms, fibromyalgia type pain, disorientation and confusion, and degenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Don’t be fooled by the term “free glutamate”…

Some foods advertise “No MSG”, or “No added MSG”, but actually, they contain large amounts of a hidden MSG derivative, called “free glutamate”. 

Many people experience adverse reactions but are not aware that the cause may be exposure to this substance, free glutamate, which is created in manufacturing processes.

When any product contains at least 79% free glutamic acid it must be called MSG.

Quantities of less than this amount, do not fall under MSG labeling restrictions, and can be called any number of innocent sounding names, such as “natural flavoring”.

In larger quantities, free glutamate is toxic to everyone, but for those who cannot metabolize it effectively, even very small doses can act like a poison.

MSG stimulates or damages glutamate receptors, making them more sensitive to subsequent ingestion of MSG.

Science suggests that free glutamates may act as a “slow neurotoxin” with damage, such as dementia, only becoming apparent years later.

Stealth dangers…

The tricky part for consumers is that current labeling allows for free glutamate to be hidden under more than 40 different names making it extremely difficult for MSG sensitive individuals to identify.

For example, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, another name for free glutamate, is widely used in many manufactured food products.

Brain lesions have been produced again and again experimentally using hydrolyzed vegetable protein.

Also, it has been determined that when these substances are combined together, as can be found in the lengthy ingredient list of many prepared foods, they become much more toxic than when used individually.

Commercial soups, sauces, and gravies that are in liquid forms are even more toxic than solid forms, because liquids are rapidly absorbed and attain high concentrations in the blood.

MSG has been found to cause serious damage to several areas of the brain…

It has been clearly demonstrated that free glutamate places humans at risk, and plays a critical role in the development of several neurological disorders, but the FDA dismisses much of this extensive research.

Numerous complaints have been filed since its initial use began in the 1940’s.

By 1948, many major food suppliers were using MSG, and since then, its use has doubled each decade.

The average American now consumes 1.92 pounds of MSG each year.

According to Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., author of “Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills”, “…excitotoxins play a critical role in the development of several neurological disorders including migraines, seizures, infections, abnormal neural development, certain endocrine disorders, neuropsychiatric disorders, learning disorders in children, episodic violence, specific types of obesity, and neurodegenerative diseases.”

Hidden names and sources of MSG…

This is where it gets scary.  MSG is hidden in more foods and ingredients than you’d ever dream of.  Here are some examples:

“Enriched”, fermented,  protein fortified, ultra pasteurized, broth, bouillon, caramel flavoring, corn syrup, cornstarch, dry milk solids, natural flavoring, gelatin, gums, malt extract, milk powder, modified food starch, potassium glutamate, seasonings, soy protein, soy sauce or extract, stock, vitamin “enriched,” whey protein, yeast extract and yeast nutrients.

So, buyer beware.  Read those food labels carefully!

  1. I would say not OR, but AND where Dangerous AND Deadly chemicals WILL over time destroy a human brain & even heart function too. The same can all be said for ASPARTAME that was to have been safer than what it replaced SACCHARIN. I have found how saccharin was for me in the early 1970’s to where I said NO to TAB, TANG, & later Diet Coke & Diet Pepsi, as I had MORE petit mals then. ((So good job Phylis, as this SERIOUS TOPIC where ALL brain conditions are a problem from MSG & ASPARTAME, needs to be sounded every season. )) Just take a serious look at all the foods every SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, & WINTER that ALWAYS are the popular selling foods & drinks, as people need to be taking notice WHAT FOODS were eaten & drinks were consumed, when seizures had happened to them. If this was the main issue every season of the year, sooner than later, all NEUROLOGISTS would get these issues penetrating in the walls of their offices & their ears, hearing about this problem. You would think they would have to report all of this to the CDC & FDA so then they would have to make it public what these chemicals really do to human brains, from the youngest to the oldest brains on earth. BABY FOODS & FORMULAS are some of the worst foods sold, and we wonder why so many teenagers are having neurological illnesses & conditions. This is why I ALWAYS use 100% PURE VIRGIN COCONUT OIL, or VIRGIN OLIVE OIL if I want a change from the coconut oil. All vegetable oils, soy oils & canola oils all have MSG chemicals in them, along with CITRIC ACID, another form of MSG. ALSO AED’s like ZONEGRAN, ONFI, FYCOMPA, PARAMPANEL, and more have these MSG’s & ASPARTAME’s in them, especially in the GENERIC names. Also,,THE DARK ACT LAW that President Obama signed & made a law in 2016, has since 2017 when it was made active, has made 97% or more of ALL non-gmo foods TOXIC & UNSAFE unsafe to buy, much less eat. In 2015 I was still able to eat at least 5% to maybe 7.5% of all foods. I can not today eat 5% of the total food supply, with out the fear of a GRAND MAL SEIZURE happening to me. So knowing this is today, as this has been a problem since 1967, Is my condition really a form of Epilepsy ? OR Am I just a person with a brain to take AED’s all my life as I have been told for over 40 years. My neurologist today says to me that all AED’s over time when I person takes for for years, in time do nothing to help stop seizures or prevent them, and the drugs are known to be dangerous to brain health in other ways. But they can always try us on some NEW DRUGS, which we never have taken for obvious reasons, MSG & etc.. in them, but that does not affect their life. It’s clear to them that we are not to know nothing, as we all need drugs or a brain surgery or both, along with VNS, RNS & other ”possible fantasy solutions, called false promises” that will never stop food chemicals from what they do to our brain causing seizures & etc.. WHAT HAPPENED to all the BRAIN FUNDING INVESTED MONEY that the N I H got from the OBAMA years, & WHY does FDA & CDC continue to support MONSANTO & the chemical industries, as CONGRESS FUNDS THEM ALL ? << There is the problem, as I have called for 20 years or more about this serious health issue, where all of congress & senate from WV has heard from me, all for NOTHING to ever get done. One person can not move a mountain alone. All of congress & senate in the other 49 states & president TRUMP need to hear the truth & reality what happens to us when MSG & or ASPARTAME invades & attacks our brain. Of course their brains, have been saturated with all these chemicals, they really do not care to relate to any of us. MONSANTO & the DRUG INDUSTRY pays them better than we do, BUT OUR VOTE may count more.

  2. Awesome information- I have not seen someone be able to come out and ‘tell it like it is’. Aspartame was causing me to have constant headaches until I read about the possibility from Aspartame. Stopped using it, headaches went away- then did an ‘experiment check up’ and headache came back. Several days later, discontinued again- no headache! I don’t know if it
    caused more seizures for me, but it had caused the headaches!

  3. Just to add another REALITY of this topic. I can not count the number of GRAND MAL SEIZURES, that I have had, to the point to when I know it was all going to happen, as they did, that I did NOT KNOW if I was going to be alive 3 to 15 minutes or later. For some reason, I am still here as that FEAR always stays with me wherever I maybe, and when FOOD is at any public place away from home. I always say NO to any food, away from home, UNLESS I am at my favorite & special buffet place to where 95% or more of their food there has NO MSG. There are 2 cities in driving distance from here, that I can go to IF I am away from home to have some safe food. There is I-HOP’s that have only have waffles & pancakes that I can safely eat. Never been to WAFFLE HOUSE, and I read that PANERA BREAD are suppose to serve now foods with NO MSG. Never been there to see for myself, or test my brain. Would you ? That does not every I-HOP will make the same type of pancakes & waffles. Only 1 syrup I can use there as all the other 3 or 4 FLAVORED SYRUPS have ASPARTAME in them. So MSG & ASPARTAME are both DANGEROUS & DEADLY if we all IGNORE them both. PANERA BREAD may not KNOW ALL THE DIFFERENT MSG NAMES, but we’re to take their word for it when they say MSG FREE or NO MSG in their foods, soups & etc… My favorite buffet place IS NOT GOLDEN CORRAL. Their peas have MSG in them as so does many of their foods. http://www.truthinlabeling.org http://www.msgtruth.org http://www.saynotomsg.com There are many more sites to learn about this serious & dangerous & deadly topic, that ONE Grand Mal seizure can end, from MSG. http://www.mpwhi.com that one is on ASPARTAME,, IF it is still available to connect to. MONSANTO, & BILL GATES \, FDA & CDC, are trying to take all these sites & making it harder to log on to with the help from GOOGLE, MS, IE,FIREFOX & etc…

  4. Unfortunately, as long as Corporate empires & commercial food-chain establishments financial power, defines, controls, monopolizes & manipulates the “safety & wellbeing of society”, millions of lives will remain victims of the marketing skim of the corporate empires.
    Too bad to see that society reduced to marketing conspiracy & financial scandals of the food industry while the publicly elected authorities choose to bury their head in the sand & remain silent, disolving the responsibility & accountability of the commercial food industry for financial gains.

    • MSG comes in many forms and many different names:

      Glutamic Acid
      Glutamate
      Monosodium Glutamate
      Monopotassium Glutamate
      Calcium Glutamate
      Monoammonium Glutamate
      Magnesium Glutamate
      Natrium Glutamate…

      to name a few.

  6. Do people out there in the medical and science world give seizures and Epilepsy any decent amount of concern? They may not see it as one of the “big” ones like cancer or heart disease, but can’t people with these diseases go out in public without the worry of fainting? What about us? Why doesn’t something that attacks the brain warrant any kind of attention ? I have an really expensive AED pushed on me by my Neurologist who thinks its a “Miracle Drug” and can’t understand why it doesn’t work, sometimes. All that he’s done is upped the dose, of it. When I told him my concerns about it, he’s looked at me like I asked him an advanced Calculus question. I almost think, good old Dilantin would be better than that. When will the medical community take a serious look at this disorder?
