Ode to a Doctor’s Visit… | September 4, 2012

They forget that we live 365 days or 8,760 hours a year with our illness…

We see them for four 30 minute visits or 2 hours in that year while we struggling…

We spend time planning in anticipation of this precious, important moment…

We invest hope and sometimes fear into the event…

We have often orchestrated endless tests and other Doctors’ assessments in order that instruments will be tuned to perfection…that they might render us an orchestral visit…

The Doctor will listen to us as we have observed our condition relentlessly and respond with the respect due, to the information we offer and know what is needed…

That is what we ask.

  1. WOW Sally Komar,,,

So specific, so short EXACTLY TO THE POINT,,,, so real, so scary & hard to fathom.

    It’s a whole different world,,, Isn’t it?

Can you imagine the EXPECTATIONS & the DISAPPOINTMENTS, CONFUSION, MISTRUST,,, of the patient, to the point of QUESTIONING THE INTEGRITY of the Doctors or the hospitals?

Sadly,,, Been there & done that,,,,

May be we got too ADVANCED IN MEDICAL INDUSTRY & HEALTH CARE, we swapped DEVOTION TO THE PROFESSION for “fast-cash & get rich quick”, HOSPITALS, UNIVERSITIES, COLLEGES & DEGREES”, at the expenses of our well-being & our lives.

    LORD HAVE MERCY.
Let’s hope, we will wake up one day, before humanity turns EXPENDABLE, for FAST & easily convenient cash machine.

    Let’s hope for better days.

      • Totally Agree,,,

-Just taking a train & a bus going back & forth for PRESCRIPTION REFILL that should have been mailed “TWO WEEKS AGO”,

-Sitting at the Pharmacy line for three hours to ONLY to be told, “SORRY Sir, we are in short supply, but here is three days worth of your medication & need to come back, for your regular MONTHLY REFILL in three days”,

-Watching & witnessing the anger, frustration & RUDE argument between Pharmacists & very SENILE old ladies, patients in line waiting three hours for prescription refill or a Doctor, with NO one tending to their desperate needs, makes you wonder,,,,
“WHAT EVER HAPPEN TO CARING FOR THE PATIENTS, Is this a way to heal the patient”?

Oh Yeah, one learns to endure & accept Epilepsy the hard way, but how does one learn to endure & accept the human indifference from the very “PROFESSIONAL EXPERTS” we have come to expect the most ???

I’m NOT sure what, where & how but there had to be a better way out of this mess, let’s hope & pray.
        Good luck.

    • And lets hope the doctors wake up too.

Remember the hippocratic oath? “First do no harm.”

A listening ear and a little caring would be “handy” too!

  2. Hi Phylis have question maybe you can help with. Diagnosed w/Epilepsy around age 5,now 49.In this time frame only originally had 2 seizures up until few yrs. ago. Since then i have been out of work-CERTIFIED LICENSED AUTO. Mech 2yr College Degree. Doc said i could stay work as Mechanic but didnt want me to drive. HE FILLED OUT EXEMPTION FORMS so i can keep my Mechanic Licences-EXEMPTION FORMS. I was given copy of papers and copy WAS SUPPOSED to be sent to Dept. of Motor Vehicles here in Pa. who controlls all. Somehow Papers were never recieved,so they say,so i sent copy of copy i had. Well nothing ever became of it and lost job-career. I filed for Disability, met w/Doc 1time before all went quiet. Re-filed all papers and was sent back to same Doc to file Disability paperwork. Would you be able to supply me w/some names of ATTYS. that can help me out-i feel i am getting screwed around bigtime.   THANKS  ED
