  3. My son had his first seizure around 4 months old. The doctor who have treated him diagnosed it as Febrile and told us he will outgrow it through supervised medications. The doctor prescribed Diapp a suppository used every time he has a fever. With good timing it works just fine and prevents seizures. He was in his 2nd grade in Elementary School when the doctors changed their diagnose to epilepsy and prescribe him to take Serenica R everyday. Although already diagnosed as Epilepsy they still couldn`t find anything wrong from his CAT scan or EEG. Is it possible that its still just Febrile seizures?

  4. That’s a tricky one, Worried Mom…

Febrile seizures occur most commonly in infants and young children.

They typically strike when a child is between 6 months and 5 years old, but they most often occur during the toddler years. They may recur during childhood but are usually outgrown.

EEGs alone are often not sufficient to make a definite diagnosis of epilepsy. Because, they are not sensitive enough to distinguish many disorders which cause epileptic seizures. Especially those deep in the brain.

So, it’s a toss up. It could still be an hang over from febrile seizures, or it could have developed into epilepsy.

It’s hard to tell. I would suggest a second opinion, or even a third. And be sure to bring your son’s history and test results with you.

    Good luck.

  5. Would you by chance have any recommendations of neurologist or epileptologist in Ontario, Canada? Great idea. I am specifically able to visit Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Toronto, Kitchener, London. These cities are all in Ontario, Canada. If not, then I may choose to travel to Michigan as I see you have several in Ann Arbor and one in Grand Rapids. Thank you for this service. I am 66 by the way and after 45 years on dilantin I am having difficulty regulating my blood level since I had the H1N1 vaccine last November. I thank you for sending me the website for the H1N1 Monovalent Immunization Consent from Lafayette, Louisiana, which specifically stated it would affect the dilantin blood levels.

  6. Glad the website helped. I don’t know how you’ve survived that many years on Dilantin. It made me a walking zombie, my hair fell out AND I got galloping gum rot.

Anyway I was able to find a recommendation from the eforum list in Ontario:

Dr. Marika J. Hohol, St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Ontario

I hope this works out for you. Let me know how you do…
