the show tonight (Katie Couric on 60 minutes) just blew me away...especially learning that epilepsy claims as many lives as breast cancer...but is so little understood and so under-rated as the killer that it is...

i am also saddened that the medical professions are so unaware of the remarkable research that has been done over the decades in nutritional therapies with epilepsy...specifically using the vitamin B6 and the mineral magnesium to balance and correct neurological electrolyte activity...which these nutrients have become famous for...

In Adele Davis' book written as early as 1965, researchers have chronicled EKG's that, with the introduction of 500 mg magnesium, changed from an obvious epileptic seizure to normal within a few hours... the following has been posted on our website (http://www.aperfecthealing.org/) under 'Our Clearinghouse and Database for Nutritional Healing' and the link 'epilepsy':

'.....Further studies by Adelle Davis (Let’s Get Well, 1965)revealed a serious and complicated B-6 deficiency in epilepsy, as she states in her research:

Convulsions apparently identical to epilepsy have been produced in many species of animals and in infants and adults by a lack of vitamin B-6. Almost 25 years ago, the late Dr. Tom Spies gave vitamin B-6 to persons subject to epilepsy and achieved excellent results. More recently a well-known proprietary baby formula contained so little vitamin B-6 that more than 300 infants given it developed severe convulsions, an inexcusable tragedy which could have been prevented had the formula been tested on animals before being marketed or had physicians who gave it checked its vitamin B-6 content……Streptomycin, which appears to destroy vitamin B-6 or perhaps increases the need for it, has also caused epileptic-like convulsions in children......'...

.....In addition to vitamin B-6, Ms. Davis reiterates the fundamental need for the essential mineral magnesium:

....."The results to giving persons with epilepsy adequate magnesium have been more than consistently favorable. Thirty epileptic children, all previously on anticonvulsant drugs, were given 450 milligrams of magnesium daily by mouth, and the drugs were discontinued. A 13-year old boy who had had epilepsy for ten years was extremely depressed, showed signs of mental retardation, and his seizures could not be prevented by drugs. After receiving magnesium, his epilepsy disappeared and he became mentally alert. Muscle biopsies of babies who developed convulsions resulting from magnesium losses through diarrhea showed only half of the normal magnesium content. These infants also had intermittent foot and wrist spasms, rigidity of the back and neck, and tremors of the arms and legs, all of which became worse when water, given to overcome dehydration, diluted their magnesium supply. As soon as 500 milligrams of this nutrient was given them, all symptoms promptly disappeared. Because of a high calcium intake, infants are especially subject to a magnesium deficiency......" - Adele Davis, 'Let's Get Well', l965

If there is anything that the late and remarkable Adele Davis is famous for is that all the research she was involved in has virtually been swept under the rug by the very medical institutions designed to help those in need....

.....the most noble thing we can do in her honor is to bring this remarkable woman's nutritional research out of the closet and start using it on the very people it was intended for...the victims of epilepsy that medical and pharmaceutical therapies have proven incapable to cure....
